AER ARANN LAUNCH DUBLIN SERVICE

Aer Arann's Dublin service commences direct from Blackpool International

Blackpool International had cause to celebrate on Monday as Aer Arann commenced services on the popular Dublin route.

The first departing passengers on the flight were treated to a delicious lunch of Irish stew, soda bread and a Guinness before boarding the aircraft - very welcome on such a cold day!

Aer Arann now operate a five weekly service to the popular Irish destination on a Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday providing an excellent link to Dublin.

Susan Kendrick, communications manager, said, "With the arrival of Aer Arann, the introduction of the free passenger parking initiative, the Airport Development Fee and celebrating our centenary year, we are expecting 2009 to be a busy and exciting time!

"We are delighted at Aer Arann's arrival here at Blackpool and are very keen to work with them to develop their route network."

Paul Schutz, chief executive at Aer Arann, added, "This is a fantastic way to start the New Year.  We are delighted to get 2009 off and running with a great new route and we expect it will be very successful for the airline and for Blackpool Airport."

The launch of the Aer Arann to Dublin service coincides with the introduction of free passenger parking and an Airport Development Fee (ADF) at Blackpool International.

The free parking is available to all departing passengers up to a period of 15 days and has been introduced at the airport with the sole aim of attracting more passengers from across Lancashire and the Lake District to travel from Blackpool International. The ADF has been introduced to provide assistance with funding growth at the airport, in terms of passenger facilities, infrastructure and route development which in turn, it is hoped, will provide better facilities and more choice of routes and destinations for passengers and will ensure the continued operation of the airport from Blackpool.

Sue Kendrick commented further, "We are the only international airport in the country to offer free parking and we would urge passengers from across Lancashire and the Lake District to try Blackpool International and see for themselves how easy it is to access the airport, park for free and have an enjoyable, stress-free airport experience.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has emailed in with words of support and encouragement both from regular passengers and from those who had not thought to try Blackpool but for whom the free parking is a real incentive to try us.  I can't say it enough times, but this support is much needed and greatly appreciated."
